Bromberg Adam

Bromberg Adam, real name Adolf Bromberg (12 December 1912, Lublin – 23 March 1993, Stockholm), publisher, encyclopaedist.

In the years 1953–1965, he worked as director of the PWN publishing house. He came up with the idea to create the encyclopaedia Wielka encyklopedia powszechna, published by the PWN in the years 1962–1970. In 1964, he co-founded the Polish Association of Book Publishers. In 1964, he received a doctoral degree at the University of Warsaw, having written a dissertation on the Polish publishing market in the years 1944–1964. On 1 June 1965 he was removed from the position of director of the PWN. In May 1967, he started to work as editor-in-chief at the Polish School Publishers. During the events of March 1968, he was removed from the Polish United Workers’ Party and lost his job at the Polish School Publishers. On 21 June 1969, he was arrested on the charges of maladministration at the PWN. On 15 July 1969, he was released from custody. The investigation was discontinued following the country-wide amnesty. In 1970, he migrated to Sweden.
