Dejmek Kazimierz
Dejmek Kazimierz (17 May 1924, Kovel – 31 December 2002, Warsaw), theatre director, actor, politician.
In the years 1962–1968, he was the director of the National Theatre in Warsaw. In March 1968, he was removed from the Polish United Workers’ Party. All the performances he directed could be classified as political theatre; they were an important element of the public debate on history and the present times, with Dejmek often using classic Polish drama pieces to comment on the current situation in the country. Eventually, this strategy proved to be dangerous. In January 1968, Dejmek’s staging of Dziady by Adam Mickiewicz (which premiered in November 1967) was removed from the repertoire of the theatre. The ban directly preceded the events of March 1968 and led to the dismissal of Dejmek from the position of director of the National Theatre.
