Ochab Edward

Ochab Edward (16 August 1906, Kraków – 01 May 1989, Warsaw), communist politician and activist, general.

After the death of Bolesław Bierut in 1956, he became the First Secretary of the Polish United Workers’ Party, but in October 1956 he ceded the position to Władysław Gomułka. He was the chairman of the Council of State in the years 1964–1968. He resigned after the events of March 1968.
